WhatsApp Setup Guide
Enables your agent to send and receive messages via WhatsApp.
Prerequisites
- A WhatsApp account
- A phone with WhatsApp installed and active
Step 1: Pair via QR Code
Carapace uses the Baileys library to connect to WhatsApp Web. The pairing process works the same way as linking WhatsApp Web on a new device.
- Go to Dashboard > Connections
- Find WhatsApp and click Connect
- A QR code will appear — scan it with your phone:
- Open WhatsApp on your phone
- Go to Settings > Linked Devices > Link a Device
- Point your camera at the QR code
- Once paired, the session state is saved automatically
Step 2: Verify Connection
After pairing, the WhatsApp connection should show as Connected in your dashboard. Your agent can now send and receive WhatsApp messages.

Gotchas
Phone must stay connected: WhatsApp Web (and by extension, the Baileys connection) requires your phone to maintain an active internet connection. If your phone goes offline for an extended period, the session may disconnect.
Session expiration: WhatsApp may periodically require re-authentication. If your agent stops receiving messages, check the connection status in the dashboard and re-pair if needed.
One linked session per device slot: WhatsApp allows up to 4 linked devices. The Carapace connection uses one of these slots. If you're at the limit, unlink an existing device first.
Business accounts: WhatsApp Business accounts work the same way. There's no difference in the pairing process.
